Change money for the stay abroad.
I use the free Visa Card from DKB.
I also carry at least 2 additional credit cards with me (ING and comdirect) so I don't have to worry if a card doesn't work or gets stuck in the ATM when I'm on the road.
Changing money in Germany in advance: is expensive because the exchange rates are usually worse.
Changing money directly at the airport is also expensive, so I'd rather go to a bank in the next town if necessary. (If I don't know the country, I still change 50-100 euros directly on arrival so that I can get to my accommodation safely.
The cheapest way so far has always been to withdraw cash in the local currency by credit card.
To do this, I have a rough overview of the chart and the current currency price.
Some automatic teller machines (ATM) take a commission, this can vary from bank to bank. It may therefore be worth comparing different banks.
Some ATMs offer to accept the exchange rate. I always decline conversion so that my bank changes the course (this is updated daily and has always been better than the local offer).
Besides, I always have a few euros and dollars in my pocket. So that nothing stands in the way of the first taxi drive or a SIM card.
(You can often pay with either currencies. But in notes, coins are undesirable in some countries because they are not exchanged or are exchanged with a surcharge.)
Oh yes, remember to adjust and save your apps, login data and other procedures. For example, so that you don't have to pay for SMS/calls on your home number.
